WHY

To advance the implementation of Agrivolatics (APV) for scalable Dual-Use Solar Energy facilities.

WHO

Students, advisors, faculty, staff, and administrators at accredited colleges and universities in the Southeastern United States.

The Strata Innovation Award Competition challenges students and faculty from accredited colleges and universities in the Southeast United States to develop scalable solutions for the co-location of solar energy production and agriculture. APV is an emerging technology that can help reduce competition for land, provide climate-smart solutions to improving land productivity, crop water-use efficiency, profitability, and economic resilience of agriculture.

We are looking to reward final-stage solutions and technologies, i.e. those that have achieved proof of concept.

Award

Prize will be awarded to submissions based on the project stage and the proof of scalability. The full $25,000 award will be reserved for submissions that have been proofed-out or are in the final-stage and ready for deployment. The award and trophy will be given to the individual or group entrant with the most promising scalable submission.

Lower award amounts may be awarded for earlier stage submissions.

Timeline

The Strata Innovation Award Competition begins on October 17, 2022. The deadline to submit an entry is February 21, 2023 at 4:00 pm Eastern Time.

A completed and signed application as well as a description of the Agrivoltaics area you are addressing, your solution, and your solution’s impact on energy production and agricultural production. You may also provide drawing, photos, graphics, and/or models. (No software).

Each winner will be presented with his or her own check for an equal share of the $25,000.

Yes. The competition is open to students, faculty, administrators, and staff of accredited colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Entrants will retain all intellectual property rights to their ideas and inventions. We ask only for the right to publicize the winner and the non-confidential aspects of the winning submission. We understand that entrants may want to keep their ideas and inventions confidential for intellectual property reasons, and we will not disclose the portions of your submission that you identify as confidential.

Unfortunately, no. All submissions must be formatted as a written report.

This competition is only available to students and faculty of accredited colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia who are attending their respective schools during October, November and December of 2022.
